Timeless icon, MY Istros, returns to Rivergate for 5-year survey

Timeless icon, 42-metre motor yacht, Istros, has returned to our shipyard for a third time, signalling the continuation of her strong relationship with Rivergate.

Few yachts capture the balance of history and innovation quite like 42-metre motor yacht, MY Istros.

Built in 1954 by Dutch shipyard De Vries Lentsch, she was the largest private yacht constructed in the Netherlands at the time and became known for her elegance, craftsmanship and forward-thinking design.

Some 70 years later, Istros still remains a standout. Following an extensive rebuild at Feadship in 2020, she was transformed into a modern, efficient and award-winning superyacht while retaining her original character. The rebuild team equipped her with a micro turbine, which works in coordination with her hull shape to reduce emissions and increase efficiency. What’s more, the interior layout was redesigned to feature four lower-deck staterooms and a main-deck owner’s suite.

In September 2025, Istros returned to Rivergate Marina & Shipyard for her 5-year survey and inspection period. It marked her third visit to our shipyard, signalling the continuation of her strong relationship with Rivergate. Her most recent stay follows a visit in August 2024 for annual maintenance, as well as previous specialist works undertaken at the yard.

Rivergate Project Manager, Angus Patterson, said the team takes great pride welcoming Istros back to the shipyard.

“Returning for a third time to Rivergate Marina and Shipyard, it’s always a privilege for our team to work on a prestigious vessel with such heritage,” he said. “Repeat visits like this reflect the confidence captains and owners across the globe place in our workmanship, technical capability and service.”

The survey period involved detailed inspections and maintenance to ensure the vessel continues to meet the highest international standards. Rivergate’s deep-water access, secure facilities and experienced in-house team provide the expertise required for complex projects of this kind.

Angus added that Rivergate’s experience with Feadship-built yachts is extensive, with several of the Dutch yard’s most notable vessels having visited the facility over the years.

“We’ve had the pleasure of working on a number of Feadships, including Explora, an iconic 40-year-old vessel that recently came to Rivergate for maintenance works, as well as the 65-metre MY Callisto and 67-metre MY Archimedes,” he said.

“Feadship yachts are recognised globally for their quality and craftsmanship, so to be trusted with their ongoing care is a real endorsement of the standard of work we deliver here at Rivergate and Australia as a whole.”

At Rivergate, we’re proud to mark another chapter in MY Istros’ remarkable story - one that continues with the same attention to detail, expertise and passion that have defined her since her launch in 1954.
