Why Rivergate is Australia’s best location for a superyacht hub
The shipshape Rivergate Marina and Shipyard is the obvious choice for a new premier superyacht hub for Australia – a location where all the best elements to create a world-class base come together.
The planned expansion is a natural progression for our already internationally respected refit and maintenance centre and will increase our lifting capacity to vessels of up to 90 metres and 3,000 metric tonnes.
Ideally positioned midway between Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef, our proposed $200 million maintenance and refit hub will be the largest such facility in the Asia Pacific region. Our plans include a larger hardstand area to accommodate multiple superyachts, three refit sheds, two in water service berths and a 5-storey Trade Centre with offices, training rooms, café, crew accommodation and recreation activities.
Rivergate offers deep water access on all tides, near-perfect weather for year-round operations, and easy access to capital city services, including a 24-hour international airport only 10 minutes away. It is the perfect launching place or refit location for superyacht owners visiting the many delights of Australia’s east coast or cruising the stunning South Pacific islands.
Rivergate is also an official Customs and Clearance port, making it an easy choice for owners and crew entering Australia.
A well-earned international reputation
Rivergate is already recognised as Australia’s premier superyacht facility with an enviable track record that has placed us among the top three shipyards in the world.
In November 2020, we were named Superyacht Industry Provider of the Year at the Australian Maritime Industry Awards, while Aus Ships Group at Rivergate also received two prestigious awards.
Since commencing operations in 2006, we have provided a consistently high quality of services and offer around 320 contractors across more than 20 trades, with many more experienced workers just a short drive away.
It is this strong network and the abundance of skilled trade professionals already on hand that makes further expansion a logical next step for Rivergate. Our commitment to safety and security is also second to none.
Our shipyard currently features a 105-berth marina with 24-hour security, 12,000 square metres of hardstand, and 75 and 300 tonne travel lifts – delivering a wide range of world-class marine services led by a senior management team with more than 30 years’ experience.
Rivergate has Clean Marina Level 3 accreditation and scored an incredible 99 per cent in our most recent independent audit.
Apart from the quality of the work on some of the world’s most prized yachts, the Rivergate team is known for its excellent hospitality, organising social activities and recommending local tourism sights to make visiting captains and crew feel right at home.
What the industry says about Rivergate
Rivergate is very proud to have services more than 300 vessels over the past 14 years and look forward to welcoming many more international visitations as part of our planned upgrade.
Some of our recent superyachts have include the Amatasia (85 metres), Ramble on Rose (60 metres), No Comment (47 metres) and Ningaloo (45 metres).
The Captain of No Comment said the vessel spent three months at Rivergate, undergoing various Flag and Class surveys in addition to multiple improvements and fixes.
“As is the case with every shipyard period, hurdles were encountered along the way but the team at Rivergate worked whatever hours necessary to ensure we met our deadlines and appointments,” he said.
“Communication was clear and concise, and available 24/7. Support not only stopped at the vessel itself, but also extended to our crew’s wellbeing and comfort, always willing to provide whatever service we ask of them. Already a great, clean facility, we look forward to seeing Rivergate’s expansion in the future and hope the next time we visit we can be lifted directly at Rivergate!”
