The 63rd edition of the esteemed Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show has come and gone, but the key takeaways from the exhibition are fresh in the minds of Rivergate’s leadership team.

Partnering with Superyacht Australia to promote the exceptional refit capabilities and cruising opportunities in our region, the Rivergate team enjoyed reconnecting with international colleagues and learning about the latest technology, innovation and superyacht trends at FLIBS 2022.

Here are some of the key discussion areas arising from FLIBS 2022.

The superyacht industry continues to bolster local and federal economies

The strength and resilience of the industry was on display at FLIBS 2022, with 1,300 boats and superyachts on display and more than 100,000 in attendance across the three-day exhibition. Historically, this event alone has generated more than US$1.79 billion in economic output for the state of Florida.

Innovation is key

Superyacht owners are looking for innovation and technology that improves the quality of life for people on board their vessels. While once struggling to keep up with the world’s technological advances, the newest fleet of superyachts are decked out with systems and devices that make it easier to stay connected while on board. From IT support on demand through to apps that create a ‘smart yacht’ experience, buyers are searching for vessels that make their ocean experience as connected, automated and seamless as possible.

Sustainability in focus

Sustainability was in the spotlight at FLIBS 2022, and for good reason. New research from Indian University academics has revealed that an American-owned superyacht with a permanent crew, helicopter pad, submarines and pools can emit up to 7,020 tonnes of CO2 per year. With several seminars covering sustainability through to yacht brands unveiling the latest sustainable features in new builds, it’s clear that sustainability is in focus for owners and shipyards alike.

Rivergate remains as a respected refit destination with international captains and crew

Rivergate was well represented at FLIBS 2022 to promote the marina and shipyard’s capabilities while also shining a spotlight on Brisbane – the home of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Rivergate Director of International Business Steve Fisher said it was clear that Rivergate was widely known for its high level of customer service and exceptional refit capabilities.

“After speaking to some of the owners, captains and crew at FLIBS who have had their vessels undergo maintenance or a refit at Rivergate, it's clear that we are considered as one of the best shipyards in the world,” Steve said.

“It’s not just about doing the work well, it’s about documenting what you’ve done so when they’re on the opposite of the world and two years later they want to know what works the vessel had at Rivergate, they’ve got that information. We do that very well.

“Customers know that we are ‘can do’ people and there’s a real capability at Rivergate that is of a world-class standard.”

Rivergate Dockmaster Sarah Toxward said she was pleased to receive positive feedback at FLIBS from captains and crew who had visited Rivergate for berthing or refit purposes.

“It’s amazing to be on the other side of the world and hear how well Rivergate is known and respected by international captains and crew,” she said.
