Reef in focus

SuperYacht Group Great Barrier Reef, supported by the Queensland government, event hosts Rivergate Marina and expert speakers, held an informative seminar for crew, FOCUSING on ACCESSIBILITY IN the Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef.

The session was held at Rivergate, Wednesday 21 July with the aim of “simplifying cruising accessibility and regulations whilst operating superyachts on the Great Barrier Reef recreationally or as a charter vessel, requirements based on length of vessel and the range of exceptional experiences across the 3200km length of Queensland coast”.

Presenters included Australian Reef Pilots (Auriga), Torres Strait representatives, our GBR Dive Guides, Harbour Masters/MSQ, SuperYacht Australia, local Captains, GBRMPA and SuperYacht group Great Barrier Reef.

“The seminar was equally important to educate industry as well as crew to ensure we are promoting exceptional cruising experiences in our Great Barrier Reef region, which will result in extended visitation for all and indelible memories for yacht guests,” explained Joanne Drake, Manager at SuperYacht group Great Barrier Reef.

“We also spoke about the appeal of the new uncharted destination of the Torres Strait, which is rich in authentic culture and history, offering pearls delivered off the beach, beautiful art, pristine coral reefs and local indigenous entertainment by traditional landowners.

“We will hold three additional seminars in the next few months – at Gold Coast City Marina, Coral Sea Marina and Cairns.”

The seminar was followed by a gourmet barbecue and drinks as the sun set over the marina and was capped off by the sound of celebratory fireworks in Brisbane’s CBD at the 6.30pm announcement of Brisbane securing the 2032 Olympics.
