Brisbane's first double-decker Citycat

 BRISBANE DEPUTY MAYOR ADRIAN SCHRINNER HAS UNVEILED THE DESIGN FOR THE NEW FOURTH-GENERATION SUPERCAT, BRISBANE’S 22ND CITYCAT, WHICH WILL BE THE CITY’S FIRST HIGH-SPEED DOUBLE-DECKER CATAMARAN.

Cr Schrinner said the $3.7 million CityCat was chosen following a competitive tender process and would offer some of the best views of Brisbane from the water, between St Lucia and Hamilton Northshore,

“Council is proud to provide world-class public transport along the Brisbane River, with our modern fleet of CityCats getting people home quicker and safer,” Cr Schrinner said.

“The SuperCat is a new generation of CityCat and will be unlike any other vessel, making it a distinctive and dynamic addition to our current fleet.

“For the first time passengers will be able to enjoy scenic views from the rooftop of a CityCat, with the double-decker vessel providing 16 upper-deck seats.

“London is famous for its double-decker buses, what better way to see Brisbane than from our double-decker SuperCat.

“This fourth generation vessel will feature clear viewing panes below the handrail and larger windows in sections of the main cabin to provide even better views from every location.

“The interior of the CityCat vessel will be enhanced with new table and lounge seating options, as well as USB charging ports, to maximise passenger comfort and experience.”

Cr Schrinner said Council has awarded a contract to construct the CityCat to Brisbane business AUS SHIPS GROUP, based at Rivergate Marina & Shipyard, following proposals from six companies.

“Construction is already underway for the SuperCat, with the first passengers to step aboard in late 2019,” he said.

Cr Schrinner said that CityCats had been an icon of the River City for more than 20 years, with the fleet growing over time to accommodation additional services.

“Earlier this year Council commenced SpeedyCat services during peak periods, to provide more express services into the inner-city from suburban areas,” he said.

“Following the introduction of a new CityCat in 2015, our fleet of 21 CityCats and nine ferries is providing more than 219,000 services a year for approximately 5.4 million passengers.

“Council is committed to continuing to get people home quicker and safer, with more travel options, and expanding our river-transport network is just one of the ways we are delivering on this commitment.”
